Ladakh School Bus – Indian Himalayas
In May 2011 the Wild Frontiers Foundation was asked to help raise funds for a bus to transport children of the remote Zanskar region, in India’s far northern state of Ladakh, to school. In some cases the children had to walk some 12 miles each day in order to attend school and gain an education.
What we did
To raise the final £700 needed to purchase the vehicle, we put on an India themed evening in Brick Lane, London, inviting Wild Frontiers clients to come along, enjoy a curry and hear more about this region of the India Himalaya and its people.
The shiny red bus continues to travel between three remote villages, taking the children to and from school right up to November when the school has to close down for the winter.
